Albino prices have dropped....

happysurgeman Jul 26, 2007 03:20 AM

$900???

i thought recessive genes held their value .

oh well i guess everyone had the same idea i did.... start off with albinos. since theyre among the cheapest recessive genes.

what about ghosts? have they dropped as well or are albinos now lower?

PIEDS are next.

It will be years until we see clowns, genetic stripes, caramel albinos, and pieds drop to that price. It has take the albinos 15 years to get that low. We simply have not had those morphs around long enough to hit that price.

The reason the albinos are finally hitting that low of a price is because for a few years it was the only morph available. For a long time, if you had a morph, it was an albino, which led to a large number of them being produced.

At this time, more people are working with the dom and co-dom animals because it takes so little time to breed them and produce the visible morph. Therefore, the recessives, besides albino should remain pretty close to their current price for a good long time to come.

By the way, I saw albinos on here the other day for $799. I bought my albino this year for $1250, and that also included a trio of hets. If you look at the price of hets at about $450 a pair and a het male for $50, that left me paying $700 for my albino. I have wanted one for 14 years, and now I should be getting him in the next couple weeks. I can't wait!!!!!

Yes things are dropping, but look at all the years they have really held their value, while others are dropping in thousands, albinos and other recessives are dropping, but not as drastically, and hey if you can still produce some and sell them, even at the prices they are right now, and even if they drop down some more which will happen over time, as things tend to, then hey its still good money. You might not be making a killing in sales, but a little bit back helps. Though usually when that happens here the money goes right back into food/caging, or just getting things that we need (lol) that we don't have, and usually going into debt a little bit more.

I agree 100%. You aren't going to be a millionaire in this hobby. They money you make 90% of the time goes right back into the collection to pay for food, cages, supplies or new snakes.

I'm actually still suprised that people think "any" of these snakes should be 2-3 grand a piece, let alone 10 thousand. I'm in the very low minority I'm sure but I think they are finally "starting" to come down to where they should be priced at, IMO.

I love snakes just as much as the next person and even have a pied project going but if I REALLY think about it, anything over about $1500 is overpriced, IMO!

Now let the lynching begin!

It's not overpriced if people are buying them. They are worth what people are willing to pay. Do you really think a Lavender albino pied or even a regular lavender albino should sell for $1500???LOL. Let me know when your pieds start hatching I will buy them all from you for $1500 each.

Back to the topic of the thread. I think still getting around a grand for a snake that has been around as long as the albino is amazing.

There prices do hold better than anything else ,it is just a few impatient ones that are in a sink or swim situation that undercut the national average to sell faster . They don’t see that they are hurting themselves as much as every one else in the market . David of DS Reptile Rescue
