Hi, I had a emperor scorpion for half a year, but sadly it died yesterday. Unfortunately, my guess of death would be stressed out.
Since i doubt it would be any disease, can i give it to my blackthroat monitor? its been in the freezer since yesterday...

I personally would not feed or eat anything that naturally died.

Monitors are known CARRION comsumers. Hmmmmmmmm how does that work for you? Its what they do. Its what they ARE.

Kinda like saying you would not feed dead animals to a vulture.

I read your posts(sometimes, not often) and it makes me sad, I think, another well meaning young person, that is so off on their knowledge of animals, its harmfull(to the animal). Yup, another person that thinks Love and attention is what animals want.

I am sorry, but what they want first and foremost is to BE THEM. They just want to be the animal they are. They are very much like you(A girl in the world, Gwen S.)

The point, a wolverine wants to be a wolverine, a skunk a skunk, a mouse a mouse, a ratsnake wants to be a RATsnake. And yes, a monitor JUST wants to be a monitor. Even the little tiny species consume carrion. They have practiced that since man was a monkey or on some other planet.

You do not feed dead animals, BECAUSE OF YOU. I guess in the long run, thats normal. Leading the monitors to be something they are not, instead of following them to something they are.

Prejudice is a word I use a lot. I often use it discribing academics. They are very prejudiced in believing and thinking of monitors based on the written word. And not on the living monitors in front of them(which are not even close to the written word) Here you have the subject of interest(the monitors) and some words written by a person(however accurate or in context) Why on earth would anyone take the words over the actual monitor?????? That is pure prejudice.

I could careless about you being prejudiced, but why do you have to push that on others, who may not be so prejudiced, YET.

Monitors eat carrion(naturally dead prey) that is being a monitor.

Again, you as an individual do not have to feed carrion, but you are taking away part of what makes monitors, monitors.

Lastly I would hope you keep monitors, because they ARE monitors. Please allow them to be what they are. Cheers

I totally agree with you FR! I was watching a doc where i saw a BT monitor hunting down a tarantula and a cobra, and when my scorp died..i was like.."why not?". Plus dint make it easy for him :-P Hid it between 2 barks and it took him almost 1 hour, searching around the enclosure to find it :D Full Monitor Activity, i say.
Plus, the person saying i wouldnt do it...That person did point out "I PERSONALLY wouldnt do it...".

Go for it, they eat almost anything thats not bolted down. Also if they knew how to use a wrench, they would unbolt everything else to eat that to. Let it get close to room temps and offer it, if it doesnt want the scorpion, then throw it away.

WHOA! i cutted the tail just in case before offering it and hid it between 2 pieces of bark in his enclosure. After much seeing me, he knows i left something so he searched the entire enclosure, inch by inch, and when he found it....He so totally went for it. Dragged the food out the crevice with his claws, "crunch crunch" and in. Some kind of "funeral" for my scorpion (better than being thrown in the trash can though), but im just glad my monitor seemed to have enjoyed it.
