DEAD FROGS! What's happening?

dna1331 Jul 26, 2007 12:51 PM

We have a small outdoor pond that has been taken over by frogs for the last year. My son & I have watched tadpoles and frogs breed and grow with no problems. Today, we went outside and found THREE frogs in the grass that were DEAD. Not just dead, but it looked like they had thrown up their insides. Each one had millions of little black egg-looking things throughout their guts (eggs? but not gelatinous substance surrounding, just stuck together). They had been there for a few days. The tops of their bodies looked ok, but undersides were completely exposed. Can anyone help me figure this out? Any help is much appreciated - my 2yr old is very sad!
Thank you!

Alot of female frogs who are mated with at a young age become egg bound. This means all of the eggs they produce stick together and to their insides, it causes them to be extremely ill and often ends in death. It sounds like thats whats happening and there isnt much you can do about it I'm afraid.
