Fat tail gecko lost weight in his tail....HELP

darkserpent213 Aug 19, 2003 09:47 AM

I'm not sure why this is happening or if it is even normal. But I have noticed that his tail is very skinny now compared to what it was. And he just shed recently if that has anything to do with it. Does anyone know whats wrong?!?!?!?

If you dont see him eating then get some baby food in the jar. I use beachnut stage 2 lamb. Its high in protien. Put it in an oral syringe that you can get at any drug store and squeeze some onto the tip of his nose. He will lick it off. Keep an eye on him and see if he is keeping it down or regurgitating it. Keep an eye on his droppings if they are well formed or runny. If hes regurgitating or has diahreah then you need to get him to the vet and have him checked for parasites.
Question... is he a fairly new animal for you?
Do you know if he as wild caught or captive breed.
W.C. fat tails tend to be loaded with parasites and that will cause them to loose allot of weight. They can eat and eat and still loose weight. Keep a close eye on him and see if force feeding him with the lamb helps.
I've had 2 fat tails pull a hunger strike on me. After 2 weeks of feeding them every day with the lamb through the syringe they finally started to eat on their own. If hes very skinny you may want to try to get him to eat the lamb 2xs a day to build up his weight a little. They will lick it off their nose so dont feel like you have to shove it down his throat. Just be careful not to get it on his nostrils.
Good luck! I hope this helps.
