Lots of Biaks in Daytona.. Why???

Larryskeepers Aug 19, 2003 09:48 AM

Hey all sooo i went and survived my first year at Daytona... It was amazing for everyone who missed it... I purchased my first little chondra there... His name is Zap... after Zapato i dont know why,but i have a questions.. I desperatly wanted Zap to turn into a Green and White adult and i was told to get an Aru and to check out the parents for desirable traits.. Now there were some beautiful 2000.00 at the chonrda colition set up.. And trust me if i knew what i was doing and had more money i would have been bringing a little guy home from there but i didnt have the 2grand to spend so i looked around the show a lot more and could only find a few Aru, one man had a Surinam, and there was maybe one Meike but all the rest were Biaks. Why are Biaks everywhere in daytona? Is that the most desirable locality? I was also told that now a days Locality means nothing compared to parents, but still i would like to know why all the Biaks and so little of everything else.. ill post some pictures of Zap here soon and hopefully he will be a great snake no matter what the coloration is on him... Thanks for all the advice everyone and Brandon Osborn thank you for all your posts about getting a chonrda, you have been more than helpful with all my questions. Thank you guys.... Look for upcoming pictures of my little Zap here soon...

First off, Rico Walder and Tomm Phillips at the Chondro Coalition had some very nice CBB Arus for sale in the $500-700 range(I am actually going to go pick one or two of them up in the next couple weeks from Rico). I definitely think you would have been very happy with one of those animals.

I think part of the reason there were so many yearling and juvenile Biaks around is that they are one of the most commonly imported locality types. And yes, many of the chondros you saw on the show floor were imports(not all mind you, but there were many out there that were). I saw a whole lot of beautiful yearling Biaks for sale for under $400, but I would bet the farm 90% of them were farmed or wild-caught imports.

I wish you the best of luck with yours and hopefully you got one of the ones that is a real CBB animal. Imports can be difficult to get going, and I hope yours doesn't give you much of a headache, though I would recommend a strict quarantine and getting fecals done to be sure your animal is clean of any internal parasites.

And when are you going to post pics???

Well I purchased this little guy from Burgendy Reptiles. They had pics of the parents and documentation of their purchase of the babies.. As my first one i do hope that he's not a WC/CH but if he is then its okay too he is so cute and has already found a way into my heart so no matter what he's staying. I have him in a quarentine right now and he will stay there for 5-6 months and once he goes potty then i will be taking it in the vet. Right now he is just settling in and i will work on the feeding thing later this week... He's an Aru type and your right Tomm Phillip had some beautiful babies... i always have the best taste and choose the most expencive one.. after begging steve that we could afford the little 2500.00 dollar guy i had to give in and know that we couldnt.... But here is little Zap... I will get some better pics for you guys soon...He's true name is Zappato Let me know what you think and tell me how to make him a more happy camper if you could..
