thayeri question

CFlowers Jul 27, 2007 01:50 AM

So... if you breed two random thayeri. Is the offspring outcome also a toss up? I mean say you bred two MSP's does that pairing still mean you could get buckshin, msp, nevo...etc?

To some degree they will be a toss up. If you breed two MSP's you're more likely to get a clutch with more MSP's. If you breed two leonis you'll probably get more leonis. It depends on the parent snakes genetics as to what colors and saturation of colors you will get. But yes, you never quite know whats going to come out of those eggs.

I am with Chris G. you can still get some surprises but if you breed msp to msp you will get mostly msp's. I bred two applegates last year both leonis and got nothing but leonis. You just never know with these and what is in store.
I bred an intermediate and a leonis and had a toss up of half and half then she double clutched and threw all leonis the second round so it is just a big surprise. That is what makes them so addicting.

Like everyone says it is pretty much a crap shoot, but thats what makes Thayeri great. I had three clutches this year. The first one was leonis to leonis. Only three hatched out, but all three were leonis. The second clutch was msp to leonis, and I got four msp, and four leonis. The third was another leonis to leonis, and again I got four msp, and four leonis so there's really no telling what you'll get, but I think that's the best part about them.

Hey Chris, I saw this picture on your website. What the heck is it? The white parts make it look albino, but there is black and it has black eyes. Do Ball Pythons have a Paradox Albino gene?

Thanks!

Congrats on picking up that pair from Adam, by the way!
