Splendida shed problems

onebadguy Jul 27, 2007 09:46 AM

I have a 41/2ft desert kingsnake badly mistreated with his old owners, this resulted in burns and scarring from a bare lightbulb left in his enclosure. About 10 days ago he started his shed phase and retired to his hide coming out again just last night, all seemed fine, no sign of eyecap retention and glorious new colors but once he totally emerged his rear half has not shed.

It doesnt seem to cause him stress and i assune this would be attributed to the scars.

Would he remove this himself and how long should i leave him before attempting to help him?
I was thinking of bathing him in warm shallow water or putting him into a damp pillowcase. Are these methods ok and if so roughly when should i try.

Any help much appreciated thanks

Make sure he has a water dish he can completely submerge in, and give him a humidity chamber (an enclosed box filled with damp moss)

It will probably get it off himself. You can soak him and work it off carefully yourself. Soak him first, and if there is a part that doesn't easily come off, soak him some more. But he probably will get it off himself.

You can try a product called "Nature Zone Snake Oil & Reptile Polish" - I've never used it, I took in a boa with shed problems and the previous owner gave me the bottle and said she used it for his bad sheds. Me - I just gave him a water dish he could completely soak in, and his next shed was complete.

he has both a large water bowl and humidity box.
is it going to cause undue stress and how long approx before attempting to remove the skin?
