Crickets.

I recently moved my little Squirt up in cricket size, because the "small" ones were a bit too..small. He's now eating 2 "large" crickets a night (the smallest of the Petco "large" variety) I was wondering..if any of you feed your juvies crickets, how many do they get a feeding? StV, my guy is probably about 2.5 inches long (he's currently curled on a leaf), and the only reason he's getting nightly feedings is because every night before I go to bed, he's waiting in the area where I drop the crickets in.

crickets should be no bigger than the space between your gecko's eyes (length of cricket).

I have no clue what size of crickets Petco sells..and I am sure every single Petco store will have different sizes...so that isn't very accurate, but using the space between the eyes rule, it is much easier for you to judge if the crickets you are feeding are too large or too small. Being a bit small is better than being a bit too large.

I also suggest you can just feed the crested gecko diets out there.

Usually the big chain pet stores only sell 2 sizes. I've found that a lot of the smaller, reptile specific places have a whole range of cricket sizes, making it much easier to meet the needs of a growing gecko. There is definitely a time when they lose interest in the 'small' size, but the 'large' ones are still too big for them to comfortably swallow. If you can find a reptile specific place (I know 2 in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, I'm sure others can recommend in other areas), you'll likely be better able to get appropriate sizes.

I have found feeding insects every other day to be best. i myself feed bugs 1 sometimes 2 times a week other days i offer fruit mixed with cgd. If you intend to try just bugs for some reason skip a day it will show more hunger. I would also suggest a variety. geckos don't live on one thing in the wild, variety is the spice of life. you will see a marked improvement in its feeding response giving it more than one kind of food.

His feeding response isn't in question, I was just wondering. He doesn't seem too interested in the baby food or GCD right now, so I figured he'd go for a transition later. Thanks guys!

A better feeding response will result in more food being eaten.................................... my babies will eat almost twice as much if given a day in between feedings.
