I was starting to design a snake cage and was going to use some 1/8 thick aluminum plate that I have for the bottom and sides. Does any one know of a reason that I should not use this material. It will be a cage for my two Amazon tree Boas. There will be a lot of humidity in the cage.

Aluminum will corrode in a moist/humid environment, potentially releasing metal oxides into the tank. Harmful? Maybe not, but why chance it. Also, Aluminum transmits heat well, may be hard to maintain temps. My $0.02.

I will not use the AL.

there are a variety of plastics that are lighter, easier to work with, perfectly fume-free and safe in humidity, and also cheaper than aluminum (except maybe if you work in a machine shop and can get metal for free).

that being said if you're trying to go cheap and easy to work with i'd use lexan or another plastic for windows on a wood frame and get a commercial sealant paint for the inside parts of the wood. it will be perfectly protected from humidity if you get the right stuff and apply it carefully.

Also,you can get 1x2 to build the outside frame predrill your holes to connect the boards.you can get corner board but it is high.All wood is right now.We always make sure what we use is NONTOXIC.Seal the inside like a tank instead of useing a inside frame.
I heard that glass is not very exp.If you find a building they are redoing or tearing down.You sometimes can get the glass for free.
