Box Turtles and music

snakehunter101 Jul 27, 2007 09:11 PM

My Uncle came to me today and asked me a puzzling question can a box turtle hear loud music? I told him I'd ask around and find out so any help appreciated.

I would imagine that they can, they have ears. I know When I play music mine Sulcata will go in his hide, My snakes will all start moving around, they do not have ears but they feel the vibrations.

They can hear loud music.
On the 4th there were people popping off firecrackers near us. I saw my turtles stop & look up each time they heard one.
Our tortoise can hear them too. The first year we had her she'd been shot with a gun.
Dove hunting season begins Sept. 1 every year. We are so near the line where the city limit begins, (we are in the city limits) but just across the line is county property where hunting is legal. Every Sept. 1 it starts, you can hear guns being shot.
That first year we had the tortoise it really scared her when she first heard shotgun blasts.
She remembered what had happened to her, today 5 years later she seems to not be afraid.
She can hear it & so can the box turtles.. so I'd think yes they can hear music too.

My Ornate/3 Toe hybrid plays drums in a band. I don't think he is very good though.
