Actual Burmese Size?

brianray Jul 28, 2007 03:10 AM

I have been thinking about getting a burmese python for a while but I can't find any consistent data on how big they get, most websites just say they are all huge and nobody should own one.

I thought that the owners of burmese pythons would be the most reliable. Basically I would like to know the average length and weight of a full grown male burm and how long it normally takes to reach it's full grown state.

Thanks for your help

in my experience, male burms usually top out around 12-14 ft. some people say smaller some say larger. The one thing you have to realize is if 12-14 is ok with you, there are reports of males topping out over 18ft and that probably isn't if you are asking this question. There are snakes that reach large sizes but not giant proportions which may suit your desires better.

I have 2 Burmese, One male and One female. My female is at 10 feet right now and is only about 4 years old. My male is about 9 Feet, I have no clue as to how old he is because I got it on a rescue. I have a reptile rescue and the male snake was surrendered to me. Hope this helps.

The dwarf form only gets around 7' max and mine are between 4' and 5 1/2'. They breed at 3 1/2' to 4' They are too expensive for the pet trade right now because so few are in breeders hands. In 6 to 8 years they will be affordable.
