Lavender Morph ?

maxrr Jul 28, 2007 05:24 PM

Would this guy be considered an Amelanistic Lavender Motley? He was sold to me by Great Valley Serpentarium as a Light phase Lavender Motley, but I've never heard of a light phase. His siblings were normal Lavenders. To me, he looks to be a snow, but with the lavender (anery b, right?) instead of the traditional anery. Does that sound right or do I not know what the heck I'm talking about? I don't have a lot of corns so I'm not up on the gazillion morphs...Any help is appreciated...Thanks!

Max, hows the alterna male doing?

Of its siblings were all lavenders, then it is most likely an Opal Motley. Opal is amel and lavender. What did you pay for it, opal mots are prolly going for near 250 or 300, so if you payed lavender motley price (100-150) you got a steal.

Mike,

He's doing great! He took f/t unscented mice immediately and is currently in shed...Just running out of time this year to find a female or two...
That makes sense that the corn would be an opal. I thought that may be the case after seeing a few opal hatchling pics. I just want to be sure, since I'm going to try to sell him. Too many other breeding projects, so there's just no room for him now. Anyways, thanks for the response Mike!

lavenders are not a mix.
I was curious to the ways that lavender was discovered, myself.

he meant what to breed with opal to get lavs?? maybe.....

opal to lav or anything het for lav will give you some lavs.....

.........

my memmory's not good on this at the beginning......

Rich Zuchowski.....found a snake.....under a bridge ....took it home.....it laid eggs......all eggs died but one......it was wierd and brown and he thought no big deal.......turned out to be a bigger deal than it looked.......mother was re-released before eggs hatched even I think?........the rest is odd and broken history..........

Jason,

Lavender is just a different type of Anery, sort of like how there are different types of Albinos...To get lavenders you need to breed either a Lavender or het lavender to another het lavender...That's about the extent of my Lavender knowledge...

So what it sounds like to me you are saying to get a lavenders then the parents must be het Lavender? Would that make it a normally occurring gene in CS's? Otherwise there must be a morph when the gene originated. I noticed you said that is about the extent of your Lavender knowledge so maybe we both have something to learn? LOL At any rate I would love to know what mix produced that morph

in my post above I told you were the first lav came from......

Rich had alot of hets floating around...he couldn't keep them all.......ended up some went into the Aztec project at John Albrecht's home......John hatched 3 brown snakes one year......(before you all could buy them)...I got the 3 ,then all he made the next 2 years...(like 2 then 3 again)......I hatched the first opals about 2 years after I got the first lav.....Rich was sold a white opal and a pink opal.......

........Rich made alot of morphs from lavs and opals and aztecs(after naming them all)........

and it all started with that one surviving egg.....

kinda looks like a pink and green snow to me.
Are you from the area or did you have the snake shipped to you?
I frequent the GVS and they have never had any corns out of the ordinary.

My GF bought him as a hatchling while she was living in SF...I told her to double check with them to make sure it was a lavender and they insisted it was a light phase lavender. It doesn't show up well in the pics, but there is a faint lavender color on the circles on his back. Like Mike said, I believe he is an Opal...

yeah, I read your post fast and missed the part about the siblings. I'd have to agree that it is opal. And opals are the same as snows (in that they use amel, anery), but they just use a different form of anery, so i was kinda right. Right? lol.
Nice looking snake BTW!
