A quick update (and thanks)

liljon140 Jul 29, 2007 11:43 AM

Hi everyone I wanted to give you all an updte on my Nile you helped me out with a few weeks back. After talking to you i moved it into another cage where the humidity would be higher and lowerd the wattage bulb and gave more hiding options and leaf litter ect. I had alot of husbandry improvements.

The Nile is doing much better. It is eating 2 hoppers every 2 days but it still wont eat while I am around it will however now bask while I am in the room and watch me intently if I go near the cage it dosent runn off and hide it just stares at me. It also no longer freaks out when i change water and open the cage to feed it but It does huff and hiss when I enter the cage but this is to be expected it still doesnt trust me. I have noticed it has put on some weight and seems to have grown a little bit. I really appreaciate everys thoughts and help. My new house should be done in about 2-3 weeks so I can move in over there and build it a more suitable perminate cage. Thanks again for the help my monitor thanks you as well.

Im glad to hear your fella is doing well.

"it will however now bask while I am in the room and watch me intently if I go near the cage it dosent runn off and hide it just stares at me"

Hehe, aint that something? Mine does much the same thing, giving me a hard stare down any time I enter her territory, lol

Over time, curiousity will get the better of your animal, and it will try to make contact; mine did it while I was in the cage cleaning up. The key is to NOT FREAK OUT! lol

And believe me, when you look over and the animal you THOUGHT was underground is now fully above ground and tongue flicking your arm... well, you feel alil iffy about the whole situation.

Just stay cool, hold your ground, and (while you should always remember the possibilities) try not to be afraid of the bite- if its coming, its going to come, so just be ready in the case it happens, try not to freak out, and take things slow.

Best wishes.
