Crestie not growing

TasiaMay Aug 19, 2003 12:38 PM

I have a juvie crestie (about 2 months old) that is just not growing. I have his setup correct and I mist twice daily. He will only eat about 4 crickets every other day, and will sometimes take a couple licks of babyfood off my finger. I just find it odd because his sibling has the same setup but is growing like a weed. I am beginning to get worried that he is malnurished (sp). I took him to the vet, who said fecals and all else looks fine. I am running out of ideas so any advice to get him to eat more would be appreciated! Anyone ever try repti-aid? I've heard it works.

Thanks in advance

hmmmm, that does sound a little odd,

for the record what are your temps? Also what type of baby food have you tryed? I know my crestie was finiky at first but he did grow out of it, with a little help. What I did was find some baby food that he really likes (which was Hawaiian delight) and put some crusted crickets in it, ewww. If you cant get him to eat any baby food maybe try a different type of insect, such as silkworms, this might peak his interest more. Also what size cricket are you offering him? it could be a little too big and "scarring" him. good luck!

My temps are 78-79 in the day and 75-76 at night. He is eating 1/8 inch crickets (which are smaller than his head) so I'm not sure it's that. I have tried peach, sweet potato, apricot, hawaiian delight, bananas and pears - all without much success (although my other 2 seem to like all of the above). He has taken a couple licks off my finger but won't touch it out of the baby jar lid in his cage (which again, my other 2 do). I'm not sure what else to try. Any more suggestions?

This is a recent pic of Kreecher ... his sibling (who was his same size) is now almost twice the size of him!

ok, the temps are fine and so is the size of the food. How are you offering the crickets to him? are you letting them run loose and he catchs them, or are you tweezering it or placing them in a bowl? Also you might try a different type of insect, such as silkworms, just make sure the other insect you try is soft bodyed enough and safe for crested.
