Another hova question????

geckoluver101 Aug 19, 2003 12:41 PM

I've been watching my hova all day and i'm trying to get the temp to stay steady at 82f. How do ya'll do it. It's always at like 85 or 90. Also why does the light keep going off? Katie

I just kept adusting mine until it was OK (you have to turn that little metal bar sticking up). The light comes on when the hovabator is warming the inside. When it goes off, it has reached the desired temp you have it set at.

It does take some fiddling to get the temp correct. It also is harder to keep those things lower when the room temp is higher. These things have no way of cooling the temp inside the incubator so if the room temp is over 80, the inside of the incubator will be above 80. I have also found that putting some water mass in the incubator helps keep the temps more stable.

The light indicates when the heating element is turned on. The light will come on when the temps are below what you have them set at. It turns off when the temps are where it is set at. If the temps drop, the light goes back on.

What is the temp of the room it is in? Like Lunar says....it can't get cooler than ambients. I put mine under a shelf on the floor where it is cooler.....70-75. Then I can adjust it down all I want. If it has the wafer thermostat it should go down all you want.
Do you have a cool closet or basement? Not cold....but high 60s to 70s.

The room i have it in is 77F. I also have it on the floor. Should i put it on the floor in front of the vent? Katie

I wouldn't suggest putting it by the vent. If the ambient temp is 77, then I'd unplug the 'bator, take the top off and let it get room temp. Once its at 77, plug it back in, then adjust it until the light goes off. That way, you know the temp setting is lower than you need, so you can adjust little by little until you get it where you want it.
