Do you compare/ analyze?

ZFelicien Jul 29, 2007 09:24 PM

I like to analyze the morphs I work with as well as compare their characteristics that may seem the same/similar so here are a few...

This Hypomelanistic (Hypo type I) reduces the amount of dark/black pigment... so it's still there, there is just less of it. We can see Dark/Black pigments as well as the Dark/Black color of the pupil...

The "Peanut Butter" (Hypo Type II) mutation reduces the degree of black/dark pigment... so the pigment takes on a Lavender/Brown coloration... there is NO black pigment expressed in this type of Hypo... also note that the pupil color of the PBs are RED... ruby red (similar to lavenders but darker in comparison)

Hypo - PB comparison shot (previously posted)

The "Lavender" (Tyrosinase positive) mutation there is a complete absents of Dark/Black pigment... Note the Rudy eyes as well... but obviously different when compared to the ruby color of the "Peanut Butter"

The "Coral" (Hypomelanistic Lavender) aka "Hybino" mutation expresses Lavender and Hypo simultaneously... while there is an absents of black there is a "burst" of the "under color"... note these have red pupils as well but if you look at the iris color it's a red-orange-flame color...

"Jelly" (Hypo II Tyrosinase Negative) mutation... this mutation is an interesting one... for those who don't know it is the result of breeding a "Peanut Butter" to a T-Negative... while the other recessive traits would produce 100% 2x hets for PB and T-, this pairing produced an entirely NEW mutation! Note... complete absents of all dark pigment in this male... as well as the Ruby eye color... not as dark as the eye color of the PB... not as light pink as the eye color of a T negative and not the same color as the eye color of the T positive. Jelly females are VERY similar to a PB but with a trained eye you can differentiate (don't have my jelly female as yet but when I do I'll be able to show the difference)

I'm working on a Florida King snake Morph website... so there will be a resource for people who do not completely understand these mutations... there will be LOTS more to add to the list with all the 2x, 3x, 4x hets that are being produced... I think it'll be an essential tool for those that want to keep up with the progress of this subspecies.

Thanx for looking/reading

Zenny~

This is what you good at-

Looking at these morphs and taking notes of identifiyable differences and features while explaining it to us.. I hope you continue down this path with more posts like this on a regular basis.

I for one will look forward to it!

The type II hypos- (AKA peanut butters) seem similar to hypos in other snakes also. I see a lot of hypo Hondurans with a considerable amount of black tipping, yet they tipping is dull gray rather then black. It seems to be more prevalent in the hypo tri-colors. Some have a reduced amount of black, some have a reduced amount of melan resulting in gray, and others combine both traits.

I wonder if this is more common then we know and just starting to be realized.

This is a Golden from the Phantom line. Notice it looks like a normal high red hypo but upon closer inspectiopn the black is a lavender color. A hypo type I will have black in those areas.

This is another Golden. Notice the head is lavender as well.

Rainer,

Those goldens are pretty. What do they look like as adults? Any adult pics?

The Goldens are a new morph. Just hatched from the triple het Anery x lav x Peanut Butter.

This is eomthing else new and i can't figure it out yet. It came from a Jelly x double het Whiteside x Peanut Butter.

I bred a male Jelly to a HET WSXPB. What I got is this gray snowish looking snake AND a whitesided. There where only two eggs in the clutch as the female that laid was small. The whitesided is not going to make it because it is kinked and has a dome head. But where did this WHITESIDED come from? The Jelly does not have WS in it. and i have no idea what the other one is unless is a type of jelly. This Whitesided wwas not supposed to happen and the other is a surprise. I'll no more about that one after it sheds.

these just hathed this morning so excuse the bad pics.

what the heck is it?

here is the WS. Its obvious that what it is but where/how is this possible?

A website comparing and describing Brooks and Florida morphs would be great and is much needed. I'm sort of lost when looking @ morphs of these great snakes.

the web site is a great idea, any morph photos I have that will be of assistance I will surely send to you, if you wish. do yourself one favor- have a backup of all the data you accumulate in case you lose your server/ your server loses you and you can't get the info back (e.g., eastern kingsnake resource site).
LOTS of great BPOF work being done this season, it is alot of fun to sit back and watch the pics roll in. YEEHAA!
