a friend of mine who I sold a reticulated python from my first clutch of retic's in 1995 has scaled down because of family situation (can not blame him)and now breeds Australian Pythons. Just recently reconnecting with him to find out he just breed JCP's and Womas this year. So I will be procuring one JCP and 1.1 Womas. No pictures of the JCP's but here is the pictures of the two womas I will be getting.

I am truly an ADDICT!!! lol...

The male......

The female....

might be getting some womas if I have to look at yours and TimO's anymore How many different species do you have over there Frank counting as if your leucistic rat snake 1, normal rat snake 2........ bet you got a lot and my guess is 22 and you can count your friends het pieds and stuff too
Bob

FRoberts Jul 30, 2007 11:49 AM

I will list species kept in 3 categories and also anomalies as well:

Colubrids:

Northern Pine Snakes

Black Pine Snakes

Cape Gopher Snake = only one male need a female

Texas Rat snakes = Leucistic & Lavender Albino

Eastern Chain King snake = only one male need a female

Boas:

Central American Boa (Bci)

Amazon Tree Boas = two males need a female

Yellow Anacondas

Dumerils Boas

Brazilian Rainbow Boas

Python:

Reticulated Pythons = albino, het for albino, tigers, silver heads, and yellow heads.

Albino Burmese Pythons

Blood pythons = yellow phase & red/orange/copper looking one. Both males need a female.

Coastal carpet male

African Rocks = pos het for patternless

Macklots python

JCP

Diamond/JCP hybrid.

Ball Python = reg

Balls ( my friends ) reg, albino, het pied's,pos het snows, pos het anery, and pos het albino.

So that's all the snakes, I also have 2.0 northern Snapping Turtles, 0.0.1 spiny softshell, 1.0 African Bullfrog, 1.0 African clawed frog, and a few emperor scorpions. I think that's everything. Probably forgot something.

Also coming soon 1.1 Womas. My friend Jim has a so so litter of Argentines for the snakes and his first time breeding, 8 live, 10 still, and 15 slugs. So I am not expecting anything from him this time in regards to his Argentines, I would rather see him sell them all and make some money, when she has a "real" litter then I WILL expect some lol.

silverhead retic??? Prolly looks good no doubt and is that one showing irridescence like the normals? I love those argentines as well but you have to get those down into the high 60's for cooling so my friend will no doubt have trouble getting his female ready but I love them as pets and their eyes are really cool looking like most of the central bci's. What central do you have btw?
Bob

FRoberts Jul 30, 2007 12:35 PM

a silver head is a classic retic with bright colors and the heads turn a silver color and also at times look normally colored. If you keep retic's you learn they also change different colors specially at night after a good sized meal, it sometimes is as extreme as night and day. The Bci, I am not sure where they come from. One adult female is very dark, another was from Sharon Moore aka... boa woman, and the remaining are from my friends stock which look to be circle backs with very light nice coloring, opposite of my adult female Bci.

She is as dark as the picture in other post depicts.

when you said Central American but they are Columbians correct? and yes I realize that columbians and centrals are both bci and that really dark boa you pictured back in your post I can tell looks central with that darkness about it-this one

FRoberts Jul 30, 2007 12:44 PM

they are what people call coloumbians yes. They are very pretty snakes with loads pink in them, boawoman one has lotsa pink as well, exceptional animals. Well all my animals are exceptional come to think of it lol

Congrats!!!

I love the jcps!! You will too (just switch it rats as soon as you get it, trust me) - but nothing compares to the womas in terms of keeping!!

his jcp eat rat pups already, I told him to sell those for more money because not only that they are from a lazik high yellow line as well. I will feed them whatever they want, rats are simply more conveinent for sure.

you can defrost your mice with your rats in the same bag and they have no problems eating them but of course this is not from my personal experience but it seems to work in theory though
Bob

FRoberts Jul 30, 2007 12:36 PM

well sometimes that works and sometimes they will not fall for it no matter how much rat inards you put on the mouse, I know someone who has to wash his rats with water and rub smell off them and that's the only way snake will take the rat.

Bob.. sometimes you can switch them easily.. and sometimes it is not easy at all. I have seen several people w/ carpets that you can't get a rat in no matter how hard and which tricks you try, and nothing is more boring then feeding 15-20 mice to an adult carpet.

some JCP's can be very very hard to switch.

I heard they metabolize alot faster then a typical python therefore requiring more frequent feedings.

TimOsborne Jul 30, 2007 02:09 PM

Yeah.. I really think mine would eat everytime I walk into the room. They will easily be adult size by their second birthday..

Their metabolizism is alot more like many of the colubrids then most of the python family.. on a good note, they aren't as messy (input is like a colubrid, but output frequency is slower like pythons) so you won't have to spend lots of time cleaning..

do they hide a lot like brb's or are they sometimes out in the open? I don't watch none of my snakes eat but womas don't bite that much huh not during feeding time of course? I can take a few but don't want one every time I take it out lol but can sacrafice some blood for those beauties
Bob

TimOsborne Jul 30, 2007 02:15 PM

It is an extremely fossorial species Bob.. so a hide box is needed. They will spend a lot of time in them during the day (or under the substrate if the cage is set up so that they can). I do see mine out cruising during the early morning or late evening a lot though. They are pretty active at night, and also seem to be very curious, so when I am working in the snake room they tend to come out and see what is going on (I think it is just because they think they will be feed and not that they like me). Also, if you have a hide with a top opening, I see mine alot of times periscoping thru the hole looking around.

So what about temperment? Any bites as of lately? How often are you feeding them for them to be full grown in two years? Sorry for all the ?'s
Bob

TimOsborne Jul 30, 2007 02:47 PM

Bob..
They are a curious and very docile species for the most part. My first male has bitten a friend the day I got it. It crawled up her pants leg and when we tried to pull it out, it latched on.. can't blame him though, she has nice legs.

Other then that, none of mine have bitten. I have a new male right now that is about 6 weeks old and is pretty fiesty. He hisses and opens his mouth, flares his neck and will occassionally strike (missing you by 2-3 feet usually) but it is all show. You can still reach over and grab him without worry (at that size it wouldn't hurt anyway). He is starting to settle down now as well.

I honestly trust them as much as any of my morelia or epicrates.. Like any species though, there are occassionally animals that are aggressive. I also know of a few people that have womas that aren't able to be free handled without caution, but those animals are not ever handled (and weren't while young either).

All in all, it is a great species to work with. They are very interesting animals. They are also extremely hardy snakes that do well in captivity.

I have some care information and some sites on the web that are good resources, if you or Frank would be interested. Email me as I don't think I can post links to other forums here (and I don't have permission to post the caresheets).
