carpet x ball cross ?

iant Jul 30, 2007 01:46 PM

So whats the deal with this cross? Is this legit? and what is the demand like? any ideas? I also had seen and article with a green tree x carpet cross, that was wild looking. Further more as breeders is there an ethical line not to cross here?

There was a Ball x Irian Jaya Carpet pairing done where living offspring where produced. It seems just about anything can be bred to a Ball Python...lol (Womas, Burmese, Carpets, Bloods....I am sure others as well)

Green Tree x Carpets (Carpondros) have been around for some time though...

As far as "Ethical Line" to some there is to others there isn't, This topic has been the backbone to many heated threads in the past, and will probably continue forever, Its really up to the individual, Some people are against it and some people are for it. Some people say these captive reptiles will never make it back to the wild, therefore experiment away, while others fear that the captive population of Morelia is forever tainted.

I personally remember back when Hereptoculture was all about the species, so I have grown up admiring species for what they are, not for where they can be taken, and see many people that just seem to get bored with "Normal" or "Wild" look, and with the popularity of morphs, people are always on the lookout for unique and different, or creating something that has never been done before EVER....Which I can fully understand that want...

I just remember back when I was a wee little herper, that it was totally Amazing to even own a Jungle Carpet Python, back then there wheren't very many even available, and I still remember how excited I was to ataully own one, didn't matter what it looked like, it was a muddy Jungle Carpet....BUT it was a jungle carpet...I guess times change...and no matter what people say, people will do what they want to do, and there is no way to stop it, and really should people try and stop it? Just think what it would be like, the excitment to be the first person to breed and produce something that has never been created EVER on the face of the planet...To some that feeling is worth it...to others its not...

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"....And "To each his own"

Thanks for the intelligent response, I appriciate it. Also if you get a chance I posted a pic under "typical Irian Jaya" Have you seen one like this? Speaking of the "normal" or "wild" does this one seem to have the qualities of what you would expect to find in a wild Irain jaya?

I would say yes, BUT...Carpets are so variable even within a Species like Irian Jayas there is a HUGE difference between one and another. Yours is a very beautiful IJ for sure, IJ's just like all carpets can vary, yours is unique, but within the range of what I would call "Wild" or "Normal". I have seen a few over the years like yours..."Fluke" which used to be owned by Jaremy Douglas of Striking Serpents...The Pictures below belong to him.

Fluke also has that faded look as well, I personally really like that look.
