Im thinking of building an outside cage for my blackthroat. I live in Florida and it is definitely compatible temperature for about 9 months of the year. I have monitored the temp of my plywood outside in the sun for months now. There is no problem reaching 130* surface temp in the sun.
I was going to use a 10L'x10d'x6h' chain link dog kennel and block the top off with more fencing.
I will sink 2' of plywood in the ground around the perimeter of the kennel to prevent dig outs.
Attached to the kennel will be a 4x4x8 heavily insulated plywood crate. In this crate will be sufficient heat and basking areas, hide boxes... Everything a monitor needs. This will be its home for those cooler months. She will still have the option of going outside too.
These are just some rough ideas for now. I would like some opinions please on my ideas.
