Erbach (Sapa-AFP): German police wielding an umbrella, a laundry basket and a potato sack managed to catch a small crocodile on the loose in the western town of Michelstadt, police said on Monday.
Two 15-year-old girls came upon the scaly creature - which was 50cm from snout to tail - at a sports field on Sunday evening and alerted the authorities.
The crocodile refused to go quietly and it required the efforts of several officers and implements at hand to coax it into the sack. It was later taken to the local zoo.
It was not immediately clear where the animal had come from. Reptiles of its size are not native to Germany.
