My femaled layed eggs today.

Mattman Aug 19, 2003 01:25 PM

One of my females Amber laid a clutch of infertile eggs today. First time she has laid. She is one of my pet dragons. Well, they are all pets she is just not going to breed for me. Thank God I had an egg laying bin set up already. Last week she stopped eating and stayed in her hide and slept all day. I thought she was going into brumation at a weird time, it happens. This week she ate a little every other day, not her normal appetite, and was more active again. Well, yesterday she started ripping up her substrate. I was cleaning cages so I had paper towels in there. She never has done this before I mean she tore it up to shreds. I put her regular substrate in today and she started scratching like crazy in the corners. I look her out gave a warm soak and heated up her egg laying bin with warm water and hooked the clamp light up. Well, she laid about 2 hours ago and is doing good. 11 squishy eggs total. I gave her another bath to wash off the dirt and she ate and drank really good. Is 11 eggs normal for an infertile clutch, or should I be worried she is holding more? She seems fine basking now. I'm just keeping a close eye on her.

We had one lay only six eggs the first time, it was so unexpected we did not realize what it was with the first one, axe thought it was a dried up mandarine orange I had been giving them the day before and I thought it was a strange urate. By the time we realized what was going on I grabbed her to soak and get in a bin and she laid one in my hand, one in the bathwater and only three made it to soil.

If she is not digging around anymore, chances are that is all she had, I have heard of ones laying only 2. They love to keep up on our toes don't they?

Keep us on our toes. This came out of nowhere. Oh well, good practice To bad she was not one of my breeders and fertile. She did well, glad I caught it in time. I hear infertile eggs can be dangerous if not caught, and the female becomes egg bound. I hope every time she does this to me she goes nuts like she did. She will never breed for me though, so I guess I got a lot of infertile clutches coming from her. It's kinda scary. Wish I could breed her. That must have been scary for you just to find them, and have them fall out on ya, lol . Maybe cause she had such a large load of them she acted the way she did. She's large to begin with, I didn't even suspect it even with the weekly weighing I do.
