Northbridge: The town beach at Meadow Pond was closed for about three hours yesterday afternoon as police followed up on what was described as a rumor of a pet alligator being let loose there.
According to Town Manager Theodore D. Kozak, someone notified the Parks and Recreation Commission that a pet reptile was possibly let loose there. Police made a few inquiries, did a quick walk of the beach area, and found nothing to substantiate the claim, Mr. Kozak said.
“It was probably just a rumor more than anything factual,” he said.
The beach was reopened by 5 p.m.
