Odd Texas Rat Snake Baby

danadewitt Jul 31, 2007 08:53 PM

Anyone seen coloration like this on a Texas Rat Snake? Mother is a Leucistic and the Dad looks normal but is a het for leucistic.
Got normal looking babies from the clutch and some leucistic but this one is quite different.

Would like to know what this is considered. Would appreciate if any one can help. Thanks in advance!

Man that snake looks great. Looks like you have a piebald. I may be wrong but that is what it looks like to me. I have seen that trait in cornsnakes, but not to that degree. Maybe someone else has seen it. Regardless, congrats on a beautiful snake.

Take care,

I have seen many leucistic Texas Ratsnakes with just a few black scales. I once saw a picture of a 'chocolate chip' leucistic ratsnake, having dozens if not hundreds of single black scales. Kind of like a Dalmatian dog. And then, of course, there's the whitesided Black Ratsnake. But I have never seen anything remotely similar to your snake.

Do not sell it, unless you get a VERY good price for it. Try to breed it to an unrelated, outcrossed (!!!) strain of leucistics, and see what happens.

Best regards,

Herman Bronsgeest.

Piebald persian Ratsnakes look close but they are Black on white not fawn on white.
