Info for bahreptiles

cm_reptiles Aug 01, 2007 09:16 PM

Snake 1 is 10 pds empty belly weight and five ft.

Snake 2 is 15 pds and five and a half ft

This was by far a project getting this info. Both are fierce and unhandable. I was wondering do I dare breed these two girls at all. Would they kill the male? Should I up the feedings for a nov breeding since I have been told that 15 pounds is breedable? I want to get snows this coming season. I can only keep these 2 a few seasons wifes orders that as soon as I get a few snows there gone. Also if fed could a snake breed every year?

Great got the stats on them. Well I would say #2 is in the ballpark. That is just at the minimum size and weight that I would try to breed at. Snake #1 is not quite there yet. That is a bit smaller than most would attempt to breed. If you were to feed them a little heavier and waited until Nov. I'd say give it a go with them. I would use #1 after your male has been removed from #2. Just bear in mind, smaller females will have smaller litters and have a higher risk of infertilities and defects. As for breeding them in consecutive seasons back to back, you can do it but it all hinges on how well your females recover from the previous season. Hope this helps.

Also - there is always a small chance that a female (or male) may attack the other snake, so you should watch them carefully when first introducing them, just to make sure you don't have a rogue killer on your hands.

It doesn't happen often, but I have heard of it happening, it's always sad when it does.

If the snakes are really aggressive towards you, just be careful when introducing them to each other, so that aggression towards YOU doesn't cause an accidental bite on one of the other snakes (make sure you can observe them without them getting upset at your presence, if they get mad when you watch them). Just because they are wild and feisty towards you doesn't mean they will be towards each other, but if any snake is defensive and pissed off... who knows what might accidentally happen.

Just watch carefully when putting them together, might want to cover the door or front of the cage if they tend to strike at the glass when you are nearby, so they can't see you so much.

Forgot to add ... it's pretty obvious but don't try to feed them while they are together!

1.Okay with the vicious females I was wondering if I started to hold them would that be better for breeding? I have never held them except for cleaning. I these have been mean since I got them as babies.
2. I read somewhere that if you put a male skin in there with them they will act better come breeding time. Is that true?
thank you all
