Lighting Question

SpectreBCIs Aug 02, 2007 01:36 AM

I was just wondering what people's thought are about in cage lighting. Do most people use this method? If you do, do you use a full spectrum florescent or one specific to reptiles?

Right - generally, since most boas and pythons are nocturnal, special lighting isn't needed.

Many generations of healthy boas have been raised in plastic bins or racks without any more light than can pass through the plastic in their bins, even when the only available ambient light is "normal" fluorescent.

They can extract all the calcium they need from the bones of the rodents they are fed, without the need for UVA/UVB for calcium absorption.

However, some people say that exposing snakes that may be ill or have skin problems to some UVA/UVB can have good results, but I'm not sure how true that is.
