Ball Pythons Books????

SJTOWNSEND Aug 02, 2007 10:45 AM

I was wondering which BALL PYTHON BOOK would be the best single book for me to get. I am between VPI's and Kevin's. I know they are both excellent.
I prefer a hard covered one & don't know if Kevin's is or not. I would like one that has alot of the morph breakdowns, pictures and also one which gets into details on breeding.
Since I don't want to make this a competition, please send responses via E-MAIL to me. Thanks for helping with my decision.

Kevin has two ball python books. The big one..'The Complete ball python' or something like that..is hard cover. The other of his ball python book is soft cover, part of a series of reptile books...Complete Breeders Series or something like that...too lazy to go look it up

You can find info about Kevin's big hard cover book at his website.. (NERD..www.newenglandreptiledistributers.com or something like that. He has a link at top of ball python forum, in the sponsor link area)

I have the Complete Ball Python by McCurley and it's pretty good. A lot of information from breeding to morphs and lots of cool pictures. I think it's helpful and it's taught me a great deal. I haven't seen VPI's so I had nothing to compare to. My local herp shop said that McCurleys was the best they had so I picked up and am not dissapointed in any way. As far as purchasing it's hard to say but I would recommend reading any and everything you get a chance to. Different views and ideas will help you determine whats best for you. Good Luck!

It's close, but if someone forced me to ONLY buy one, it would have to be the VPI Barker book-but remember, I myself am of more of an academic bent than most....

I have both books and both are excellent. I think VPI's book offers a more complete and thorough view and discussion of more topics than does Kevin McCurley's book. VPI's book is a much bigger book, pictures are numerous and beautiful. Topics seem to be much more in-depth in VPI's book. But I agree with the previous poster......buy BOTH!
