>>if you saw this on your turtle's mouth?

What I thought was Janie has broken her beak and I'd better get her to the vet ASAP.
This is how I found her Tuesday evening so Wednesday morning I got her into the vet by 9AM. I just knew she was going to have to have some bird beak cement put on her beak & it would require anesthesia so I signed the papers to give permission for that & I left her there.
One of the assistants called me after she got bitten by Janie LOL when she touched her mouth to try to take a look at this.
So the vet took a look then that piece of beak dropped off & under it there was absolutely nothing wrong with her.

Beak shedding? I have never heard of that.
I'm thinking maybe a little bit split off of the underside on top then fell & got stuck on the bottom? I didn't pick at it when I saw it because I was afraid I would cause more damage so I just took her in assuming the worst because usually for me that's what happens- the worst.
She's fine now.. absolutely fine, when I went to pick her up & touched her mouth in front of the woman who was bitten she just could not believe I did that without getting a bite.
Well.. ya know Janie knows ME but she doesn't know YOU! LOL
This was a first for me, I'm so very glad though that she's ok & didn't need a repair job done on her.

Its interesting that you mention that because a week or so ago I found what at first looked like a turtle jaw bone or something in my pen. Then I was looking at one of the turtle's mouth and I saw how it was possible for part of the beak to fall off. The beak can grow too long, so I guess its possible that a piece of it could fall off, not unlike a fingernail.

Anyway, I think what I found was a piece of beak that naturally came off. Never seen it before though.

Sparkle (ornate female) does this now and then too. Some of her top beak will kinda peal off, sorta like my sunburn! lol!

Well this is good, I'm glad to know that at least two people here have seen this before. Since beak & shell & fingernails are all keratinized tissue I guess all of it could peel or chip off without being a problem...since apparently it does happen & isn't a problem.
Janie & the other girls have been outside in the pen 24/7 since the end of May & I know for sure they're finding bugs to eat out there because I've seen Janie with a mouth full of grasshopper, so this must be natural wear that I hadn't seen before because they weren't out in a pen 24/7 until now.

I'm so glad it all turned out ok. I had to go to the vet's to buy parrot food anyway so it wasn't a completely wasted trip.

I've never seen that in any of my parrots either but it's good to know this.
Thanks for the info!
