I have a Problem.

Hello, I have an adult bearded dragon. When I got him he was a little skinny. I took him in and got him some medicine for some parisites. But, the problem is, he wont eat greens. He just likes eating crickets and superworms. Is this bad. What do i need to do? THanks
Travis

a friend of mine told me to put worms in with the greens...this way the greens move around and makes it more inviting for the beardie.

Putting the bugs in with the greens will also sometimes trick them as their aim is sometimes not so great
Sometime you might have to try the "Tough love" approach. Just offer nothing but fresh greens for a few days and see if eventually your pal will eat them when he gets hungry enough. It's possible he's just spoiled Can't say as anyone would blame you, they're fun to spoil! Maybe try some different things to offer too. My guy I've found really likes yellow squash. Try giving him wierd stuff like that cut up and no bugs for a few days and you might find he just wasn't getting the kind of stuff he wanted.

Good luck,

QB

I started feeding my dragon by holding crickets, grasshoppers, ect. with a pair of pliers. He started associating the pliers with food, so I would then sneak in a piece of lettuce after a few crickets. Eventually he started eating greens with no problem. Now I just put his salad in a food dish and he eats it.

I did the tough love method that the other person suggested. Worked good for mine. Now they all eat them on their own. It helps to intice them with bright colors of veges and stuff. Mine love carrots!!! I have one that will not eat from your hands only from the bowl. I have one that refuses to eat them unless I hand feed him. And one that only eats them after they are dried out and crunchy. Funny little creatures!!! I would try mixing with the worms and see how that goes and if it doesn't work I would just give him greens to eat and no other choice. They will eat. It took mine about 2-3 days before he finally gave in and now he eats them all the time. Good luck!!! The problem is they get spoiled!! Mine wouldn't eat crickets anymore just waxworms so for about a week they went on a hunger strike but eventually gave in.
