Minneapolis Bridge

waspinator421 Aug 02, 2007 02:03 PM

I'm sure you all have seen the news on the Highway 35W bridge collapsing in Minneapolis over the Mississippi. It's just bizzare for me because I used to live in that area, and have been on that bridge. A few of my friends live in Minneapolis, and my dad lives near there and travels through the city a lot. Thankfully as far as I know, everyone I know wasn't on it.

Just makes me think about how happy I am to be alive! I know I wansn't anywhere near it, now that I live in Wisconsin. But MN is still my home!

My thoughts go out to the people that were on the bridge, and the friends and family of those who didn't make it.

sadly they knew the bridge had stress cracks, reminds me of how the knew the levees in Louisiana where shot and needed work or additional levy's added, seems the government does not like preventive maintenance very much. They also seem to always wait for a tragedy to take place before they react accordingly. Hopefully that was not the case.

I live in Minneapolis and have crossed that bridge a thousand times. People have really pulled together to help those caught on the bridge and in the water. Many victims won't be recovered for days because of the danger of the debris in the river. So much heartache. Hopefully, this will not happen ever again. There is a mandate going out for every bridge in the country that is the same style must be inspected ASAP!
