WHAT I FOUND NEXT TO THE TRASH!!!

mingosnake Aug 02, 2007 04:37 PM

I found this sunglass rack outside a surf store at the mall! I drove by and it caught my eye... perfect for arboreal snakes! The acrylic section is 22" long by 18" wide and 48" tall. The whole thing is 74" tall and the best thing about it is that the back is lighted. The whole back panel is a fluorescent bulb covered by white acrylic. The front of the rack is a side swinging acrylic door with two hinges (I plan on putting in another one in the middle) and two locks that I need to change because I don’t have the keys. At the bottom there are two shelves for storage. The best thing about was it was FREE!

Does anyone have any comments and the design? There’s a 3” lip on the bottom for the substrate all I need is to put some silicone around the edges so it doesn’t get in between the acrylic and the metal. And I was thinking on giving all the metal about 3 coats of black Rustoleum paint so rust is not a problem (there is no rust on it now). If anyone has any ideas, just post what you would do!

Sorry for all the posts... I finally figured out how to post the picture!

Awsome find!It really would make a nice arboreal cage.I personally would lay it down and have a nice drop front cage.

That is pretty cool looking. An arboreal snake or maybe arboreal type geckos or frogs?
Great save (from the trash)!!

what I had in mind when I suggested the geckos. I remembered yours when I first saw his case. I'm gonna have to start hanging out at the mall.

I can hear it now, "Mom, who's the creepy old guy hanging out by the trash bins?" lol
