My young eastern just ate a pinkie and was still very active so I gave him a second. Should I continue to feed him as often as he will eat or try to get him on a "regular" feeding schedule?

I usually feed my hatchlings once every 4 or 5 days and I usually give them 2 pinkies. After about 3 months, I put them in a regular schedule. You have to be careful with stuffing them too much pinkies in one mealtime because if they regurgitate the food, they would usually stop eating for awhile. It is best that you feed them 2 the most and don't feed them until they fully digested it (usually after about 4 or 5 days).

Feed it two pinks, after it poops, feed it two pinks. Feed, poop, repeat.

The snake I mean,
With my milk snakes I give them all the food they want.I have adult milks that will eat 7-9 pinks at a time. I believe in the natural world they may raid a nest and feast on them. They seem to have a short feed season (april - july) Females seem to eat more then the males. I have a few that will eat all year long and in shed but most stop by august.

Joe, their eyes can be bigger than their stomach. Pinks detriorate rapidly though, as soon as the stretched look goes away feed again. Problems occur when they get that 3rd one in....then the rodents decompose inside the snake and stretch the stomach BEYOND what its comfortable with, then they regurge ALL 3 pinks. Worse than that, it loses all kinds of good digestive juices etc when it pukes so it wont eat again until after the shed cycle....and you have then lost about 2 weeks of feeding. One thing you can do if it looks TOO hungry after 2 pinks, you can try feeding one of the "next size up"...a small fuzzy for example. Each time you graduate to a bigger size its a proud event. Good luck,Jeff
