Here's a quote from a Game Warden....

During a few hours one night in Valverde County, another warden and I checked four automobiles containing snake hunters. All mentioned they were hunting "graybands."

In my opinion, two other snakes should be given protection. I recommend we protect the gray-banded kingsnake (lampropeltis alterna) as well as the milk snake (lampropeltis triangulum). Both snakes are hunted, sold and traded.

By the way Mr Sinclair, when you said I didn't have my facts together, I was actually quoting another Game Warden.

Am I missing something here?
"Two other" snakes? I only see one 'other.' Maybe that's the point.
Can you clarify what you meant by this post for a dummy like me?

The mentality. If it is hunted, bought and sold it should be protected (i.e. banned). How about we collect some data first, do some population studies, and see if the animals are in need of protection?

I see.
Good thing he doesn't know about subocs, etc.

Wow I bet this guy has never seen four fishermen on the same day either. Wow four people that is alot. Sarcasm intended.
Does he know the population density of graybands? What their range is? Their lifespan? How often they breed? How many eggs they lay?

no he doesn't have a clue. He speaks well for the Department.

Were they to PUBLICALLY consult the departments resident herpetologist they wouldn't like his INFORMED information and opinion.

When I think of it, almost every statement in the news or press concerning the impact of the reptile pet trade was quoted from a member of law enforcment. The biologists are much less frequently quoted but they usually seem to be speaking out against the food/skin trade and habitat destruction.
