here's one taken a couple days ago john w/ a cell phone. as i suspected, it doesn't show the intense red flecking that fairly covers this snake. he even has a red dot on his slatey dome. w/ typical texas rat manners however, he bit me 2 seconds after this pic was snapped. lol!

on that lindy. It gives good contrast with the blotches. Texas rats are such an acquired taste. It's hard to describe exactly what would be the perfect looking lindy (for me!). What I can say for sure is that that snake is sharp looking.

Thanks for posting it

Best regards
John

Nice snake! I'm on the lookout for a texas rat with colors similar to that.

I know what you mean. Until a few years ago I just couldn't care less about Texas Rats, but now I'm really starting to get into the subtle browns and reds and yellows. I guess it's like you said, an aquired taste.

circle around the various genera like wedding guests around the smorgasboard. Sometimes you're drawn to one thing then you fill up on that and want to try something else. The only time you get in real trouble is if you try to taste everything at once. Then you get sick and have to go on a diet.

Yeah, I hear you. The last 4 years I have focussed on Pantherophis bairdi and P. obsoletus sspp., but I used to keep and breed many species of Pituophis and Lampropeltis as well. At one time I had over a hundred of colubrid snakes in my collection and this was really wearing me out, especially during the breeding season. You just can't have a fulltime job, a wife and kids, and a huge collection of snakes all at the same time.

Best regards,

Herman.

of an F1. I think my Canon Powershot A70 is experiencing the dreaded black screen of death stage of its life.

nice john! i had a cb female that looked practically identical to that at one time. don't know why i sold that one either, she didn't even bite!.....here's a pic of another 'rat' snake that only issues feeding bites if i'm not careful. other than that, he's a pretty cool guy. that's his honey balancing on the edge of her cage door [probably] wondering if the camera is edible. haha! take care & thanks for the pics.......

If I had the space and the climate I'd have a group of them in a heartbeat. Yours are really nice looking.

Took a few pics at my friend's house today while cleaning out his Tx rat's cage. Too bad he was in shed, he is so much brighter.

always unfair to a nice-looking snake. It's like a papparazzi shot of a starlet on the morning of a hangover. It's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
