What do numbers mean?

benA Aug 03, 2007 11:58 AM

Many people put numbers next to their tortoises i.e. 1.0.0 leopard tortoise. What do these numbers mean? I have been a tortoise owner for 5 years and have never understood the secret code! It seems that everyone understands it but me!

Can someone help?

Thanks,

Ben

males.females.unknown

ie, 1.0.0 leopard would be a male leopard tortoise. A 0.0.1 leopard tortoise would be a unsexable leopard tortoise. hope that helps

Do you know if your torts are male or female?

The first letter is how many males (in one species), the 2nd letter is how many females, the 3 letter is unknown.

So here's how mine would read.
0.0.2 Sulcatas (not sure whether my 2 sulcatas are male or female)
0.0.1 Marginated (not sure the sex on my marginated yet either)

For example if you Aldabra was a male it would read like this:
1.0.0 Aldabra

If it is a female it would read like this:
0.1.0 Aldabra

If you don't know yet it will read like this:
0.0.1 Aldabra

Hope that helps!!
