sounds like they are trying to mate. kings tend to bite during mating..."love bite" and it's normal. also next time try and cool them and go by the weather for best results.

are you talking about the pair that you got from me? female hypo and a male anery? good luck! and when you get some hatchlings from them one of these day please post some pics on here or email me! i wanna see! thanks.

Yes the pair I got from you male anery/axanthic and female hypo, i will cool my snakes somewhat i didnt have these two to cool them, i cant remember who that was lol since my last post i saw him doing the deed i will post picks if i get babies

derekdehaas Aug 03, 2007 05:38 PM

sounds like they're doing great for you. good luck with everything and i sure miss the male brooks.

Sounds like they will breed. Leave them together until you see the female is really gravid.

I leave mine together all year except when a female is obviously gravid and I can feel the eggs. Keep the male out during egg laying as well because he may eat the eggs.

I saw them locked up for sure. man i am excited i didnt plan to be a snake breeder till next year lol I was just thinking about your post about listening to the snakes and this male was non stop active for a couple weeks but refused food no matter what it was and this guy is a beast he doesnt turn down food about how long till i should be getting raedy for eggs i am just a bit confused with breeding in july maybe its the 90 plus temps

derekdehaas Aug 03, 2007 05:42 PM

avoid temp near or over 90 with eggs or you'll have no eggs. i had mine set to 81 - 82 deg and all hatched out great for me this year and that was corns. i will let others long time breeders pitch in and give you more info.

Same thing happened to me last year.

I had not ever brumated my WC cal in the six years I had had him.
I bought a female in August - and they locked up. Hatchlings in end november / beginning of january.

I think getula are often willing/able to breed w/o "brumating" to trigger it.

I'm guessing especially brooksi given where they come from.

ChristopherD Aug 04, 2007 03:35 PM

i do try to take the winter off,in Fl. the cool monthes are regulated by the weather here only except for the real cold nights they get a space heater to knock up the temps a bit to avoid catastrophies but its no food for a few monthes ,but always monitor water .C
