sleepy geckos??

msaomaha Aug 19, 2003 04:02 PM

I've been looking around pet stores, looking for supplies i need for the leopard gecko i plan on getting in about a week (buying off the net). However, every time i see a leopard gecko at a pet store it is completely asleep, and never shows any movement, even with crickets leaping in front of its face. Is this constant sleep behavior normal? as a i want a reptile that is active. I know that leos are nocturnal, just wondering if they ever move during the day time... could just be the small living space they are kept in at the pet store has made them somewhat sick, as i hear many people talk about

Thanks for replies,
MS

I wouldn't expect much from your new leo during the day another thing to think of. 98% of any reptiles you see in a petstore if there more than a coupel weeks will be care for fare from adequet fro them so they are sick and weaked

I think it's the vibration of the light/heat fixture that lulls them to sleep, because when you look at all the other animals, they're asleep too. And it's only at Petco that I've seen this behavior. In every other petstore (that's not Petco), even the nocturnal animals are active.

Petstore leos aren't the best models for leo behavior, in case you couldn't tell already.

But to answer your original question, leos have minimal activity during the day, but they still move around a little bit, and you get to see them sleep in cute positions.

The geckos in the stores might be sick or something if they arent eating crickets jumping around in their face. But anyway, during the day my leo stays pretty inactive. Sometimes he walks around and climbs on his branches and that sort of thing but nothing much. But at feeding time, which is at night hes like a locamotive. He runs around the tank non stop and is very entertaining. Even after feeding is done he continues to walk around and climb on things. I would say leos are a moderatly active lizard from my own experience.
