Old enough to breed?

adamirwin Aug 03, 2007 08:37 PM

I have these two female blonde pastels born 7/05. I have a few more months to put some more weight on them, But I wanted some opinions. Are they large enough to breed?

Age would be about right by this fall but how much do they weigh?

adamirwin Aug 03, 2007 09:27 PM

The only scale I have is a 0-50lbs postal scale in .25lbs incraments. I have never botherd to try to get a weight with it of course it wouldn't be very percise.

You culd still use that scale. There are 448 grams in a pound. You can go from there.
3 pounds= 1344 grams
4 pounds= 1792 grams
and so on.
Good luck.
Now that you have the weight figured out, I would breed her at 2.5-3 years. Nothing earlier.

I rounded it to 28 grams per ounce X 16 ounces in a pound.
If you want exact numbers your answer will do fine.

Only problem with a lb. scale is the accuracy is normally or - .25lb and that won’t do when converting into gr. . David of DS Reptile Rescue

As long as they are both over 1500 grams. It is possible to breed them at a lower weight, but 1500 grams is usually recomended.

Go to Wal-Mart and you can get a scale for $20, or I found a digital scale at Ikea on sale for $1.00? You must have spent a few bucks for the Pastels in 05, unless someone gave them to you...a scale aint that much money in the scheme of things brother.

Anyhow, compared to the bill, I would say their girth is substantial for breeding. This is taking into account that they are 05's.

Although you really should way them, cause as everyone knows, the camera adds 20lbs.

and head to Wally World....

$20 for scale
2 pregger female pastels (did someone say supers, bees...etc)
$80 change

Should be priceless... Go figure?
