Triple het Brooks king

Bluerosy Aug 03, 2007 10:19 PM

This is a miracle to me. This snakes genes date back to 1989 stock. Back when breeders used to hand select for the yellowest normal florida brooksi.

It's a result of breeding the Hypo x axanthic x Peanut Butter togther. So its a triple het. I worked with these morphs since they came on the scene and never not outbreed them. It never occured to me that these high yellow brooks were incapsulated into the morphs. Hidden away for two decades. Until now.

The three above mentioned morphs all orginated from hand selected yellow phenotypes that breeders were pushing for. Everyone wanted the highest yellow brooks, that is, until the hypo came along. It was the ultimate in high yellow brooks. So people scrapped their breeding plans and the normal high yellows kinda dissapeared.

Back then the morpohs originated from sibling to sibling breedings. None of the original reccessive traits came from wildcaught animals. They came from brooks that were bred for high yellow. Thus here we have what everyone used to want.

Oh,, and I can tell these will turn out high yellow.

Sorry I don't have any pics of a high yellow normal. I had gotten rid of mine in early 2000 (like everyone else) after the hypos came along. What I am saying is I kept my morphs pure and did not outcross them. Now these nice high yellow normal genes wsufaced after the morphs had them floating around in them.

The solid yellow belly is just the Love line hypos and normals. I think they got most of their stock from the same area so maybe it was just those kings from whatever place they collected from that had the olid tyellow bellies. I have had sevral very nice normals with a high degree of black flecks that were high yellow.

I used to use band count and color reduction within the mid body dorsal and lateral bands to select for hi yellows. Seems that there is already alot of pattern reduction up front on alot of hatchlings , but those with it further down the road seemed to turn out better.
