About 10 years ago I used to breed them.
Some would come really red, some a little orange.
I can see the one in the egg is more orange.
Although they make good pets, my male (I had 1.2 breeders) would always bite.
Looking forward to the rest of the pics.

my male is a biter as well! This first one out will probably wind up looking like the sire (top pic), and hopefully some looking like the dam. I believe there is some form of hypo-erythrism going on, but time will tell. This is my first year breeding these adults. Phenotypically they appear as Northern form animals (Sierra Juarez) however there IS intergrade with southern (San Pedro Martir) form -- this could also lend to the unusually reduced amount of red/orange pigmentation. I've got my work cut out for me. And thanks for the kind words -- love all those Cal kings. I will also e-mail you with a question on something regarding Cal kings as well, having to do with an unusual variation I ran into some years back.

Very nice looking. Lots of white on the face.
Those parents are interesting too. If my screen is acurate those are some of the lightest orange adults I have ever seen.
Although having sent you an e-mail earlier, I'll reiterate that I simply don't know if this is simply an influence of Martir blood or being hypo-erythristic. Time will certainly tell, however. Attached is another recent pic of the female with a simple, aged Olympus digital camera (C-750 Camedia 4.0). No photoshop crap either, the pics are true and it's just tough to get that pinkish hue that they carry particularly on the female. Enjoy the pics, and I'll be putting up photos when the lil' ones shed out.

and thanks for the kind words! The one thing I always favored in the agalmas are the pure white bands. Gotta love that. All the babes are out and as soon as they are post-shed, I'll be snappin' away. Until then...
