OK thanks and I got another question I have them together all the time is that ok if I keep them together?

zefdin Aug 03, 2007 11:42 PM

Almost everyone here will tell you to seperate them. If they are very small, you can get away with housing them together for awhile, but you really want to keep them seperate. Especially since they are male and female and you want to breed them too. You want to control when you place them together.

What kind of setup do you have? I dont know what your situation is at home or financially, but it shouldnt be too much money or too much trouble to keep them seperate. If you want to own multiple snakes and then breed on top of it, these are the things you have to take into account.

I do have two 48inche by 20 inche cages I had them in before. Then I ran out of room to keep the big cages so I put them in a 48 inche by 25 inche screen cage. I have about 20 other snakes two so I have plenty of little empty cages if they have babies.

JenHarrison Aug 04, 2007 12:55 AM

What do you mean by screen cage? As in it is made entirely out of mesh material? How could you possibly maintain a proper heat gradient and humidity with this?

its all mesh the room i have them in stays around 81 and I have a heat pad on the end that stays at 91. and I usally pray a mist in the cage 1 once every 2 days. Like i said I will be putting them in each of there 48 by 20 tubs.

JenHarrison Aug 04, 2007 02:42 PM

Do you measure the temps with digital thermometers with probes? If not, I can guarantee you your temps are much higher than you think.

the only thing I could afford is one of those strips that stick on a glass tank I stuck that on top of the heating pads.

I read your post. Even if you go back to your original 48 x 20 cage. That is way too large for ball pythons. You need something more like 30 x 15. Good luck when you finally get the set-up you need.

dangerously Aug 04, 2007 12:09 AM

You are not ready to breed ball pythons. You need to do more research on the animals and caring for them.

WOW WOW buddy I have had ball pythons for over 5 years now I know what they need but just looking into how to breed them I had to put them in a cage together because I ran out of room but now I might be able to put them in different cages now. I have had snakes over 7 years I have breed and hatched snakes from Green snakes to milksnakes and kingsnakes. I'm just wondering what I need to do to breed them. IS THAT TO MUCH TO ASK!!

jcoler06 Aug 04, 2007 09:42 AM

hey. I dont think anyone is trying to be rude to you, but you def. brought that heat on yourself! If you make it sound like your not keeping your current animals correctly, (no matter its true or a missunderstanding) people are going to immediately look out for the animal, not you or your desires to breed. Idk what you meant by a screen cage, but that SOUNDS horrible. You should not keep them together. I do keep some babies together, but only if they are the same size and are comfortable with each other. I have two babies together at this time, they eat, shed, drink, and hide all together. They are "buds" even though I dont believe snakes feel like that! haha. There both ch, one unproven fire and one unproven yb. :P fingers crossssed. lol

royalkreationz Aug 04, 2007 10:44 AM

I love fires. My fire is on top of the mojave. He is mean as heck, and so is the mojave. I would guarantee anyone a bite if they stick their hand in one of those tubs.

ballpython13 Aug 04, 2007 02:22 PM

Those are some awsome looking snakes. Heres a pic of my female she was WC this is a pic from when I first bought her. I'll try to get a newer pick if I can get a USB cable from my camera.

JenHarrison Aug 04, 2007 11:28 PM

Why is her spine sticking out so much? What are you feeding her and how often?

That pic was from the person I bought it off of she said it was not eating for her so I got her cheap and a week after I got her she took 3 mice she is now double that size I feed her 1 medium sized rat a week now. In that pic she was really skinny and she was about 800 grams she is now over 1,500 grams.

ballpython13 Aug 04, 2007 01:57 PM

is like a mesh cage. they have no shedding problems they get along great and sleep together and are always together for about a year now and there has never been a fight with food. And the female looks just like a fire ball.

royalkreationz Aug 04, 2007 02:16 PM

You asked for advice, and we have given it. It is up to you to take the knowledge you have been given, expand on it by reading and researching, and use it correctly to have breeding success like you say you want to. If you ask for advice, we give it to you, and then you say you like it your way, then don't ask for the advice so that we don't waste our time replying to this very long thread. I, or anyone else here don't mind helping if you ask for it. If you ask, and we answer, don't say thanks but no thanks. Good luck.

your quote.........
"are always together for about a year now and
there has never been a fight with food"

PLEASE, do not ever feed Ball Pythons together! They should
always be in separate cages when feeding. Two animals may
begin eating the same prey item and injure each other in the
process.

Please, you need to get one of the two books currently available on the complete care of Ball Pythons. VPI( Dave & Tracy Barker)'s book is really good or Kevin McCurley's book (NERD) called The Complete Ball Python.

When you ask here on the forum "...how to breed Ball Pythons"
there is so much information to know that it is virtually impossible for any of us to give you all that you need to know.

Best of Luck.

I'm not stupid. I'm always there when they feed I always watch my snakes until there done eating. and I always make sure that there both are on different sides of the cage before I feed.

GaBallPythons Aug 04, 2007 09:39 AM

After reading through your posts my advice before thinking about breeding, do some research and learn how to care for each snake individually.

Mesh cages are not suitable for Ball Pythons and do not allow you to provide proper temps and humidity.

Multiple housing should not be done either.

Ball pythons are solitary animals and the only time they should be put together is male being introduce to a female during breeding season and during breading season only. Even then this is not a permanent housing situation as the male introduced briefly to the female (This also require that both are the proper breeding weight).

There is absolutely no benefit in housing multiple snakes together however it can create problems such as stress, going of feed, spreading of diseases and/or parasites, premature breeding, you are also at risk for serious injuries, death and even cannibalism.

I will be putting them in different cages. They are in very good health. The female weight is 1,500 grams and the male is 800 Grams.

royalkreationz Aug 04, 2007 10:39 AM

look at some of the pvc and abs cage maunfacturers like reptiracks, boaphile, animal plastics and others. I found one for three ball pythons, about cb70 size, for less than $200.
