hi guys. I just moved to a new home in geismar, Louisiana. I found a jevenile snake swimming in my pool. Of course I took the lil guy to a safe spot and let em go, but im not sure what he was.

He was about 8 inches, at most, long and about as thick as a shoe lace. His coloration was a solid tan, wth dark brown "diamonds" running down the back. The head was very rounded.

Since i jsut moved all my comera gear is packed away so I wasnt able to take a shot of em.

One possibility is Storeria dekayi, the brown snake. Another is a water snake, genus Nerodia, probably sipedon. Check those to see if they look like yours.

My site is titled for my home state, but the info is valid for the entire southeastern U.S. It may be of some help to you in the future in your new home state.
