I know of a lady that has a dragon ... she told me that her vet prescribed Amoxicillin (the oral suspension kind) for her beardie. I'm not sure why... maybe a bacterial infection. Has anyone ever heard of a vet prescribing amoxicillin to beardies? Just curious....

Its considered a usable drugs in reptiles. it is very potent and will certain destory the good bacteria in the digestive tract more than most anitbiotics and she should preplace those to avoid some serious side effects. This has been known to happen with this drug in other animals, including humans, humand babies often get this med and will get roaring yeast infections in their diaper area following it.

Amoxicillin/Ampicillin

Beta lactam (penicillin related) antibiotic with increased gram and limited gram - spectrum.
Most mammals Birds (passserines and doves) Reptiles
IV 11-22 mg/kg BID-TID
IM 11-22 mg/kg BID-TID 150-200 mg/kg BID 6 mg/kg SID-BID
SQ 11-22 mg/kg BID-TID 150-200 mg/kg BID 6 mg/kg SID-BID
PO 11-22 mg/kg BID-TID 150-200 mg/kg BID

*Amoxicillin/Clavulinic Acid: can, fel-14 mg/kg PO BID-TID.
Potentiated beta lactam antibiotic with broad spectrum of activity, including anaerobes. Excellent tissue penetration. Probably safe in most species. Human equivalent is Augmentin.
