BP wont use hide.

gemein_frau Aug 19, 2003 04:53 PM

I Just got my ball a few days ago, I'm using a plastic tupperware container with a opening cut in it. I've tried putting it over him, I've tried pointing him in the right direction... he didn't have on at the petshop I got him from. Could he just not want to use it. He seems perfectly healthy. He drinks and moves around all normal like. He's already eaten his first meal. I don't know what else to do for him.

Made from from anything like plastic igloos, shoe boxes, tupperware, bark hides, etc... If you make the hide accessible without having to go through the roof, it may be more open to using it... Also light plays a role in this, as a clearly defined 'day and night' will be more beneficial to when the snake uses the hide... BPs are nocturnal, so hide most of the day...

I have made the hide so he can enter from the groung (I cut a portion out of the side of the container). And I only keep the light on for him about 12 hours a day.

If you are certain your snake has no mites (just for GP), I would see if other items might work, like a Bark curve, if not you can return it...

If your BP is small enough you might want to try toilet roll or kitchen roll tubes, as thats what I use for Gretchen and she curls up inside them looking very cosy. If they're too small you might get some plastic piping of suitable size at a DIY store or similar.

Actually (maybe he knew I was concerned) I went to peek at him and he's in there. I didn't do anything different, it just happened. But I do appreciate the advise, and if it starts happening again i will go get a pipe (I like that idea!). Thanks

I love the DurDur (TP roll) Idea
that would be the perfect size for Smo'ore
I will recomend it to my daughter

I have a male BP that never used a hide as long as he lived in an aquarium. Several years....Actually I kept a black hide box in the cage. He would go into it when in shed. After he shed he would come out and stay out. He liked to lay in the corner of the aquarium. After several years I moved him into a Neodesha cage. After that he started using his hide box. Here is a picture of him using his old hide box in his "new" cage.

I do have him an an aquarium. He's actually using his hide for the first time tonight (must have known I was concerned). Thank you for the information.

LOL did you tell him hes not hiding, you can still see him...LOL sorry just thought that was kind of funny..

danot2serious1 Aug 21, 2003 01:37 AM

Thats what I thought too. Isn't that hide kinda small, If you can afford a Neodesha you can afford another hide. explination?

shadow4108 Aug 21, 2003 07:20 PM

Well, It does appear that there are other places to hide, but I could be wrong.

krawls Aug 22, 2003 05:45 PM

Actually.....I think he looks like a hamburger in this pic. I have it titled Peteburger in my files.

No...I did not tell him I could still see him. He would be very embarrassed.

Shhhh.....Don`t you tell either...

That's a really cool hide! Please tell me where you got it, and does it comes in bigger sizes? I'm having the hardest time right now finding a hide for my bp. She's about 2 1/2 feet (maybe three) now, and she's outgrown her half log. I can't find one big enough to replace it. Even the XL Habba Hut log is too small. I looked all over town trying to find an opaque plastic container that I could cut exit holes in, but no such luck. Everything is clear plastic. Right now I'm trying a wicker basket that I placed upside down and cut two exits into it. She went in it once, but now she stays outside of it. If anyone has any ideas on what else I could use for a hide, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!
