Please refresh my memory? "BREEDING"

JasonW Aug 04, 2007 04:04 PM

Hi everyone. Sorry to make you repeat yourself but the last I missed the last feeding day do to a lack of mouse stock. Tomorrow would be the next feeding day witch means the snakes have gone without for 13 days. I fed today but according to the norm the females should have had 4 mice by now total. All are eating just like I expected but my Ghost "Has been bred on 7-14 and 7-23" only took one mouse and ignored the others. This looks to me like she is getting ready to drop a clutch. However she dosnt appear to have gained any weight or show and physical signs of being gravid. Maybe she is only carrying a few eggs though so I don't know. My main question is how long after a successful breeding should eggs be expected? I have heard as early as 15 days, is this true?

I think the average is like 28-48 days but it has been a while since I have skimmed Don's book. Don't let them fool you. I thought Hope looked thin compared to my black rat (who looked HUGE!) The black rat laid 12 duds. So I figured since Hope didn't look too incredibly big I would get maybe 6-10 eggs. Hope ended up dropping 19. So they definately know how to store them!

Cool thanks. So today is actually the 28th day since the first breeding on the 14th of last month so it would not be unreasonable at all to think she is just getting ready to lay. Also she has spent most of yesterday and today in her egg box so maybe I will get a surprise tonight.

When I thought Hope was getting ready to lay I stayed up as late as I could checking on her every half hour. It worked with my black rat! But I couldn't stay up any later with Hope (stupid job!) With Molly (my black rat) I stayed up until 5 watching. It was the first time I ever got to see it so I was super happy and excited. I was lucky enough to see all of my snakes lay! With Hope I had to go to bed and when I woke up the next day she was 1/2 way done so I guess she was waiting for me
