best method to attach cork flats...?

blueharlequin Aug 04, 2007 06:29 PM

Hey folks.
I'm about to create an all-cork background in a large vivarium I'm creating and I'm looking for input as to the best method to actually attach the cork.
Silicone? Hot glue?
Any input is appreciated.

This may sound stupid but attach cork to what?

Depends, silicone may be the best for glass, but contact cement would probably be better for other porous surfaces. Depends on how permanent you want this cork.

Best of Luck

Lets say you are doing this in a glass aquarium. Is it possible that in 1, 2, or 3 years from now you might want to take it apart and put fish in there? Or even something else?

If you might, why not get some material like the PVC sign board and cut some pieces to fit the back of the tank. (You can get the PVC sign board from sign shops. Maybe even out of their trash for free) Maybe 2 or 3 pieces. You can take these 2 or three pieces and attach the cork to them then put them into the tank. That way you have plenty of room to work. Attach the PVC board to the glass with silicon. If you ever have to take it apart, you won't have to take that much silicon (or contact cement)to clean off the glass.
I'd use silicon to attach it. Then let it dry and air out for at least 4 or 5 day. Others may have a other suggestions.
Hope this helps.
