Baby milk snakes not eating

xblackheart Aug 05, 2007 12:14 AM

this is my first year breeding milks. I have 7 sinaloans and have only gotten one to eat. Do sinaloans normally need scented pinks? I have tried f/t, live, brained f/t, brained live. Any help would be great

Misty,
just give them a little time and they should eat.Usually no senting is needed with siniloans but sometimes it works.
I had 11 babies last year that didn't want to eat in the fall so I just hibernated them with the rest of my stuff and in the spring every one of them took live pinks first try.
They are bron with enough egg yolk in them for them to survive for some time.
If they aren't hungry and placed with live pinks they can become scared of them and actually feel bullied by the moving item that they don't see as prey yet cause they aren't hungry.

Just give them a little time before trying again.Once they are actually hungry and are in hunt/search mode then there mindset is different when they come across them.

God luck,
Shannon

Some of my baby hondurans only eat if I keep a high humidity container inside their box. I use deli cups with wet paper towels inside. I figured this out the hard way when I got two new hondos who ate gret for a week and then started refusing meals and puking when they did eat. After a month or so of frustration and trying different temperatures and such I added the humidity containers. After two days they ate and kept their food down. A couple of weeks later I removed the boxes. They went back to refusing and puking, so I put the boxes back in and they went back to eating.
You may want to try this. It's good for milks and many other baby colubrids to have a high-humidity retreat as they are prone two dehydration.
Good luck!
