Thermostat Q's

sir_eats_alot789 Aug 05, 2007 01:37 AM

I am in the market for a thermostat, and I decided that while i was at it, i would try to kill two birds with one stone...so my question to you all is whether or not there is a such thing as a thermostat which not only controls the temperature, but also the humidity?
thanks,
Jacob

Not that I know of. Temperature is easy to control because there is a heating element for it to manipulate power to...but how would it control humidity as that's an ambient thing?

Add a humidifier to the room you keep your snake in, and that should be enough. I have one in my snake room and never need anything else except a quick spritz the day they turn clear from being blue.

The unit would have to put off moisture of some type. You really don't need an automatic humidity device. If you keep the water bowl full, you shouldn't need super high humidity, and the snake would hydrate itself which would aid in making complete sheds. If you feel you need more humidity, use organic cypress mulch. What humidity level are you trying to maintain, and why?

I've been trying to keep it between 50%-60% but it has been tough to keep it in that range for more than a few hours before it drops below 40%. What kind of humidifier, a household one, or do they make them for just the vivarium.
I have a large water tank under the light for humidity, and I have been spraying the tank down once or twice daily as needed. and I have the top covered and just open enough for the night and day lights to not touch the duct tape/foil top.
Could you send me some links in which i can find the types of humidifiers you are talking about, and what thermostat would you recommend, if there isn't one containing both.
thanks,
Jacob

I recommend a Helix.

Your setup is really complicated and doesn't need to be. Go to WalMart, Lowe's, or Home Depot and get a room humidifier. Or, get a whole-house humidifier if the room is really that dry. Problem solved.

Also, you don't really need day and night lights. An under-tank heat pad should be enough.

Would the one on the right with the ground wire be a good choice?

That went to the main page, which product are you referring to? Any of the Helix, Herpstat, Ranco, or Johnson Controls thermostats are good. Helix and Herpstat are best IMO.

Good choice, I use those and have had nothing but smooth sailing.
