Some simple questions

bigwill0630 Aug 05, 2007 10:01 AM

I have posted some questions on this forum and I do thank all of you for the advice you all have given me. I am BRAND NEW to this. Well enough of that. Who is going to Daytona this year? What type of racking system do you use and that you LIKE? I am looking to take a group out to dinner one night in Daytona to share thoughts and ideas.

Thanks
Will

we will be attending the show this year again. Also the only rack system to go with is the new vision racks. They may not be the prettiest but they are by far the most user friendly and functional racks on the market.

I go every year, if nothing else, to visit with family and see the new stuff. As far as racks go, I make my own for a fraction of the price and they work fine. Visions are great, I like the design and they work well. There are other good racks out there too but when I can make 5 racks for the price of one....it is a no-brainer....

I have a custom built rack for my breeder females. Iris CB70 tubs for them. I used that plans off of baileyreptiles.com to build my that rack. It holds 10 females. I use a spyder robotics for my CB70 rack. I also have some Iris 32qt sweater box racks from RBIPlastics.com, for my juvinile/sub-adult $ adult males. They are great. They come with heat and tubs. Shipping is included in the price. I use a johnson controls thermostat with my sweaterbox racks. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I think I will either build my own or buy some vision racks. I bought a racking system from Freedom Breeders. Its nice.

I prefer Animal Plastics racks for the fact that they are enclosed (creating a darker, safer-feeling home for the snakes) and that they use heat cable instead of Flexwatt. I've heard various stories of Flexwatt catching fire and although it is almost always housed in fire-retardant plastic, I still won't take the risk. AP racks are also cheaper per slot than any of the others when you take into account heating, tubs, and shipping cost. I do have one rack that I made myself out of melamine, but I hate it.

What do you use for water bowls?

JenHarrison Aug 05, 2007 11:42 AM

Disposable plastic cups from Superior Enterprise that have lids with holes in the middle. The snakes can dip their faces in to drink, but not spill it or get in it. I use PVC couplings to hold the cups so the snakes can't tip them over. I toss the cups every Sunday during cage cleaning and replace with new ones.

Thank you. Will you be down in Dayton this year?

JenHarrison Aug 05, 2007 11:54 AM

No, I just had surgery last week and can't take any more time off work. Have fun!

I use crock bowls. You can find them pretty cheap about anywhere. A quick search came up with this page. Check them out. http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/products.asp?CID=0&area=cat&dept_id=764 Hope this helps.
