I know its been a while but......

Its been super hot here in miami lately, so i figured why not let my dragon enjoy the natural heat and sunlight!

recently ive noticed this small black blotch on what should be his chin, directly centered on his lower lip, i mean exactly there, i noticed he was shedding all around his mouth.

so last night i left him outside in his screened cage and i went this morning to check up on him and i noticed that the black blotch is actually a scab!

could it be mouth rot?????? i kno it happens in snakes....never heard of it on a beardie!

ive started him on some neosporin, and im going to do it 3 times a day, obviously if the problem doesnt get better im going to take him to a vet....even tho i dont like the vet very much =|

I'm concerned about you leaving your dragon outside when it's really hot as you say. On hot days in the wild dragons can find shelter and cooler temps. under rocks, in burrows, etc. In a screened cage he cannot. So if it's 90 outside there is no cool area for him to thermoregulate. Even if there is shade in your cage it is still going to be ambient temp. I also have a screen cage and won't leave mine outside for any length of time if the temps are close to 90 or above. As a rule, if they hide I take them inside.

i understand, i dont leave him out there all day either. ive done this before and when he hides under the little basking ledge i pull him inside to cool off. and give him some greens so he can eat as well.

what im worried about is the scab thing really....

ive seen mouth rot in beardies as well as other reptiles. its not a fun thing to deal with. neosporin will work well to heal it. vets basically give the same thing only in reptile dosage. id stll get him to a vet to be sure no infections have started and if so get antibiotics for him.

it could also just be where he may have rubbed his chin on the screen in his cage while outside. or he could of even been bit by a misquito or other insect while outside.
