littlefilly Aug 05, 2007 11:08 PM

Could anyone tell me a safe sealer/stain and paint that I could you on the enclosure I plan on building? I don't know which wouldn't be toxic.

Thank You

try to stay away from anything that has a very strong scent. most of them are toxic, but with proper care will not be. whatever you use, paint it on, wash it really well with 1 part bleach 10 parts water. let it sit out in a well ventalated area, washing it over and over again. do this until that smell of the paint of sealant goes away.

also check up in the cage forums and ask them, they know about that stuff than in here.

most paint and stains/sealers safe to use indoors is safe for tanks..you just have to give it a couple days after the last coat is dry for all the fumes to dissipate before putting your dragon in. Basically, if you can still smell it, it needs to air out still. Best to let them air out outside, best ventilation there is.

Avoid oil based paints/stains/sealers as oils tend to ooze out and also take forever to dry.

urethanes are good for a plain clear coat. Flat/matte or semi gloss paints and varnishes are better than gloss, less reflective surfaces and cuts out on excessive glare from lights and reflection of dragon's faces.

again, make sure the tanks have a few days to a week to dry completely and all the fumes to dissipate.
